Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur slugged out a tight, goalless stalemate at the City Ground on Saturday, but Oliver Glasner made no secret of his frustration at failing to snatch all three points.
The Reds fought tooth and nail against Spurs, even having the ball in the back of the net in the second half when Neco Williams bundled home, only for a lengthy VAR review to chalk it off for handball. While the stalemate hands Forest their second point of the campaign under the Austrian, the manager sees plenty of room for improvement despite his growing confidence.
Sloppy Possession and Momentum Shifts
Forest held their defensive shape under heavy pressure, but speaking at full time Glasner pointed straight to unforced errors as the main reason his side failed to break the deadlock.
“We defended well, but we lost the ball too easily,” Glasner admitted.
“We had a few situations where we were sloppy and we couldn’t relieve ourselves from the pressure. Every Premier League game is a game of momentum. The start was the same, they had a lot of set pieces in the first nine minutes, but we did a lot better after that. We had a period where we were very dominant. Overall, it feels a bit disappointing, but what I’ve seen gives me a lot of confidence.”
VAR Breaks Hearts on Trentside
The major flashpoint of the afternoon arrived after the interval when Williams appeared to break the deadlock for the home side.
The City Ground erupted in celebration, but the ecstasy turned to agony as the officials pulled the goal back. Replays and the subsequent VAR check ruled that Williams had bundled the ball over the line using his arm, leaving Forest to settle for a frustrating share of the spoils.
