Nottingham Forest do not prioritise striker signing as midfield remains key

Nottingham Forest aren’t in a rush to bring in another striker before the transfer window shuts.

According to Football Insider, who report that the Reds don’t currently see the position as one that needs to be addressed. Nottingham Forest already have Chris Wood, Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo available to Oliver Glasner.

Instead, it’s the middle of the pitch where Forest want to do more business.

Forest still looking for an Elliot Anderson replacement

The club’s main target for the remaining part of the window is a new centre-midfielder.

Nottingham Forest need to replace Elliot Anderson, and that position remains above any potential striker signing on the club’s list of priorities.

That doesn’t completely rule out another forward arriving. Forest could still look at the market in the final days if a player they really like becomes available.

For now, though, there doesn’t appear to be a need to force a deal.

The situation up front has already changed this summer. Taiwo Awoniyi left Forest for Coventry City last week, with the newly promoted side paying £9m for the striker.

That leaves Chris Wood, Igor Jesus and Kalimuendo competing for places.

Wood’s fitness will be something to keep an eye on. The New Zealander played only 15 Premier League games last season because of injury and managed three goals.

He’ll be hoping for a much better run this time around.

Kalimuendo has given Glasner something to think about

Kalimuendo’s situation is perhaps the most interesting of the three.

The Frenchman spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt. A strong pre-season has now given him an opportunity to change his position at Nottingham Forest.

He scored three times during the club’s pre-season and appears to have done enough to earn the attention of Oliver Glasner.

There were also positive signs during his time in Germany. Kalimuendo scored six goals and supplied one assist in 19 Bundesliga appearances last season on loan.

Igor Jesus also gave Nottingham Forest something to work with last term. He ended the Premier League campaign with six goals and four assists from 37 appearances.

So while Awoniyi has moved on and Wood had an injury-hit campaign, Forest aren’t exactly short of attacking options.

That explains why a new striker isn’t being treated as urgent business.

The club can still change its mind later in the window. A late opportunity could tempt Forest into making a move, particularly if the right player becomes available.
